Hair thinning treatment for women

In women, hair loss usually shows as thinning rather than bald patches: a widening parting, or thinning that spreads from the front of the head towards the back. Treatment starts with finding out why it is happening.

Common patterns of thinning

  • Front-to-back thinning, sometimes called the Christmas-tree pattern, where the parting widens towards the front
  • Diffuse thinning across the top of the head
  • A widening parting with less volume overall

Finding the cause first

Hair fall in women can be driven by nutrition, iron levels or hormones. Weight can also play a part, because it affects hormone balance. A doctor examines your scalp and, where needed, suggests blood tests before recommending treatment.

Hair loss caused by the immune system attacking the follicles cannot be treated with a transplant. The doctor will tell you honestly if this applies to you.

HST for women: no shaving

With HST, the area being treated does not need to be shaved. Only a small donor patch is trimmed, and it is hidden by the surrounding hair. Most women return to normal activities within 2 to 3 days.

New growth typically begins at 3 to 4 months, with noticeable change by month 6 and the full result at 12 to 15 months.*

Questions people ask

Do women need to shave their head for a hair transplant at HASCI?+

No. The treated area is not shaved. Only a small donor patch is trimmed, and it is easily hidden by existing hair.

Can HST treat diffuse thinning?+

Yes. HST can increase density across wide areas of thinning, including a widening parting.*

Why does the doctor ask for blood tests?+

Hair fall can be driven by nutrition, iron levels or hormones. Treating the cause alongside the scalp gives treatment the best chance.

How long is recovery?+

Most women return to normal daily activities within 2 to 3 days. Small crusts fall off within 7 to 10 days.
